Well, I didn’t finish the dress I’m making DD, so she wore some existing clothes for Shavuot (and was proclaimed very cute when we went out for lunch today). I finally just now got around to adding five books to the reading list from the past few weeks, only the last of which was actually finished today. I’m looking forward to talking about some of them here, at least, and will try to do at least one review tomorrow.

Can a baby’s dress be too ruffly? I’m still working on the skirt of DD’s summer dress and trying to decide what I want it to look like and I’m not sure I’m mentally picturing my options correctly. I do like the pattern I’m making up, but may well find the second sample more shareable than the first…
Probably going (back) to sleep now, but I might put up a picture of it as is later.

I want to make this hat, and it’s going to be for me! Just reminding myself of that.
Right now I need to try pumping a bit more, make sure my homework is done for tomorrow, pack my bag (including my crochet and a book to read) and then go to bed. I will try to get back to proper posting soon. (I really need to catch up on reading blogs too…)

I took my crochet on the bus with me this morning, for the first time in ages, and it really made me feel better. I’m onto the skirt part of DD’s summer dress, just, having joined the back and started the punctuated ruffles for increases.

In the lower right of the picture you may be able to see how I’m planning the increases to work. I’ve left quite a big potential gap for getting this on and off, and am planning a drawstring/ribbon back fastening to allow for maximum size flexibility.

I showed someone a few crochet stitches the other day, and that was really fun. I have to get myself stitching again – maybe it’d get me out of some of the fatigued funk. Not that many weeks till Shavuot, either, which is when I wanted DD’s dress to be ready for. I need to look at it again, but I may have done enough on the bodice to be able to begin the skirt, which is the bit that’ll take the time.
There’s a new baby in the extended family coming to make something for too. Baby stuff is small and thus relatively quick to make. You just have to get it done before they outgrow it!

(NB It’s still Passover/Pesach everywhere but Israel, but since that’s where I am, it’s over!)
So, I can get back to my crocheting. I think the priorities are getting on with DD’s summer dress, which I’d like to have ready for Shavuot, which is in six weeks, and the shawl for the wonderful doula who helped her be born, oh, over five months ago now… (Oops!) I’d also like to make some potholders/dishcloths for Pesach use, while I still remember (having entirely forgotten about it last year). After that I want to try again at some soakers for her.
I’m not sure how ambitious all this is, as I’m due to start an intensive language course next week (all morning, five days a week, with possibly an hour’s commute each way, for five months) which will involve homework, and I do want to keep up with the daily blogging too, as well as my reading, although I expect the amount of that will drop. I can pretty much either read or crochet while on the bus, so we’ll see how much I alternate between the two.

I added at least two increase rounds to the hat, but it was still too small for me. DH tried it on where I’d got to, and it fit him as it was, so I finished the round and ended it, and he has another sleep-cap.

I like the pattern, but am thinking of something else for the handspun. Really a hat for me, but perhaps a cloche like this one.

Still on the crochet, and in theory I was sorting out the cupboards-ful of crochet projects and yarn. I found one hibernating project that I hadn’t previously photographed

a cotton baby blanket the yarn for which I decided could be put to better uses as a summer dress for DD. I’ve only just begun it, obviously, but here’s a taster of what it’s intended to look like, colourwise at least.

I was looking for a pattern to adapt to what I had in mind, and found one or two I may also make, but decided to try winging this. I am taking notes on what I’m doing, just in case it’s nice enough that I or anyone else might ever want to repeat it.
I haven’t frogged the blanket yet, but will presuming I get to wanting the yarn for the dress.
I haven’t yet, but I’m also thinking hard about another dress for DD and a hat for me…
