52. Katie the Kitten. Illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

This is the first book I read to my daughter (DH has read both of us some Winnie the Pooh already). It’s also the first book with appreciable text that I’ve seen with an illustrator listed, but no author, which seems strange to those of us old enough to care. It’s a pretty short book, and the story is more descriptive than enthralling, while the pictures (five full-page, opposite a verse of text, with a small detail picture) are bright and worth examining, but it’s certainly better than some baby books I’ve seen. Oh – this edition is the waterproof padded version for taking in the bath, but we’re not at that stage yet, nor even ready for DD to appreciate the built-in squeaker. (Still working that one out too – since when do cats squeak, stereotypically?)

Could you please give a small sample of text? I’m trying to figure out if this is a new version of the Little Golden Book “Katie the Kitten,” which was written by Kathryn And Byron Jackson.

If it starts with “Katie the Kitten, a small tiger cat, is asleep in the hall…” then it’s the same story.

    Thank you!
